Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I have to be?
You must be 16 years or older to rent and operate a boat on your own.
- Passengers of any age are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
- Infants and children must be able to sit independently in a seat while on the boat.
- Parents and guardians should use their best judgment when deciding if a child is ready to ride.
Do I have to wear a life jacket?
Yes. All boaters are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)-approved life jacket at all times while on the water.
- We provide life jackets ranging from infant sizes through adult 3XL.
- If you require a lifejacket larger than 3XL you will need to bring one with you.
May I bring my own boat or watercraft?
No. Private boats, watercraft, and use of the boat ramp are prohibited at Waverly Lake during the Albany Parks & Recreation paddle boat and kayak rental season, which runs from mid-June through early September.
Is there a restroom on-site?
Yes. A portable restroom is available near the boat rental area in the parking lot off Pacific Avenue.
Can I go fishing?
Yes. Anyone fishing must have the appropriate Oregon fishing license. Bring your own fishing gear if you plan to fish.
What happens during inclement weather?
Thunder and Lightning
- All boats will be immediately recalled if thunder or lightning is detected in the area.
- Operations may resume after 30 minutes without thunder or lightning, provided there are at least 3 hours remaining in the normal operating day.
- If conditions do not improve, rentals will be closed for the remainder of the day.
High Temperatures and Air Quality
As per Oregon law:
- Rentals will close when temperatures reach 95°F or the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaches 151.
- Boats already on the water may complete their rental period.
- If the forecast calls for temperatures of 100°F or higher, rentals will not open for the day.
- Operations will resume on the next scheduled day when the forecasted temperature is below 100°F.
