Adopt-A-Park

Individuals, families, groups, churches or businesses can adopt one of Albany’s 36 parks, trails, or natural areas. Some adopters simply walk their parks and report any problems or needs they find. Others pick up litter as they walk, or report graffiti or other problems. Others enjoy occasional weeding, planting or cleaning up brush. All this while enjoying Albany’s lovely outdoors. Its the easiest volunteer work you will ever have fun doing.

Graffiti Chasers

Volunteer chasers go out as a group to paint over tagging in our parks as it appears. Vandalism of any kind is costly and in many cases, inappropriate and unsightly. Responding quickly helps discourage repeat taggers and helps others take pride in our community's natural beauty.

The Diggers

Our newest group. This group goes out with the City Forester and digs the holes needed to plant more trees for the City. It doesn't take long and allows City staff to get more trees into the ground.

Special Park Clean-Up Events

For larger projects, Special Events can be requested by an area’s adopter. Volunteers enjoy a few hours outdoors while helping with larger projects such as cleanups, trail widening, opening up overgrown areas or clearing stream beds. Some ongoing projects include: uncovering and saving an historic orchard in North Albany and planting riparian gardens to support birds, butterflies and other habitats. Special events are generally open to anyone including families with older children. Equipment is provided by Adopt A Park. Volunteers should wear water resistant shoes and bring their favorite gloves.

Events are usually about three hours, weekends or weekdays.
